How to Choose The Right Outdoor Paint For Your Home

While summer is winding down and the fall season approaches, many homeowners are already thinking of family gatherings to come. With that being said, many of our customers are thinking of a fresh coat of paint. Though painting on the inside of your home is always a terrific way to change an outdated area, we encourage homeowners to look on the outside. Sometimes learning how to choose the right outdoor paint for your home can be daunting. At TrustBilt Albuquerque, New Mexico we can help. We assist our customers in making the right color selection that fits their custom needs and go well with the area in which they live.

Color Selection Does Not Have to be Confusing

We recommend you do some research before you make a final decision. For instance; think about the color of your home now and what you like and do not like about it. If your home already has a dark exterior, and you desire to lighten it up, plan on using a good primer underneath the paint. If you are selling your home and trying to make it look appealing, we suggest a light color that also makes your home look bigger. Light colors also do better in direct sunlight and in areas where temperatures tend to freeze. Dark colors tend to fade in sunlight and in areas where the temperatures fluctuates. If you are still not sure what colors hold up well with environmental changes, we suggest taking a small drive around your own neighborhood. You will easily be able to see which colors look great after years and which ones look dingy or worn.

Look at the Material of Your Home When Making a Color Selection

It is one thing to like a color and another to make sure that your home can pull it off. If the siding on your home is made of wood, your paint color options are plentiful. On the other hand, stucco tends to have issues unless you use a more muted or subtle tone of paint color, rather than something bold. The trim on your home is always something to take into consideration, as well. Some people prefer more than one trim color. A contrasting trim color seems to be more common. Regardless, we suggest taking your time during the paint color selection so that you will love the color, not just like it or put up with it. One great way to do this is to purchase a few samples of paint color and put them on different sides of your home. Paint looks different in the evening than it does in the morning, so making sure you like the look of the paint all day long, is a good place to start.
